Job Description

**This is a Monday through Friday position from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift. **


Position Summary:

Manage all aspects of quality assurance, food safety, and regulatory compliance, including the management of quality assurance staff. Provide necessary definition, development, and execution of product quality assurance strategy, addressing all phases of product development.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the facility sanitation programs SSOP’s (Sanitation Standards Operating Procedures), SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) in compliance with all applicable FDA, USDA and IDPH regulations.

  • Respond to any internal or external comments, concerns, complaints and/or questions regarding a quality or sanitation issue.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals outlined in “Food Safety Fundamentals” and the “Food Safety Plan." 

  • Takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System and holds the responsibility of for all verification and validation actives.

  • Enforce current good manufacturing practices and all relevant company policies and food safety regulations.

  • Develop, train, supervise and motivate the team to ensure they meet set performance standards.


Key Activities:

  • Maintain the facilities Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Program including all verification and validation activities for Safe Quality Food (SQF).

  • Responsible for leading the facilities HACCP/Food Safety team including the responsibility for performing all hazard analysis on any new raw material or equipment introduced to the facility.

  • Swabbing program/ environmental testing and microbiological testing.

  • Raw material and packaging material inspection and determination of quality and usability prior to production.

  • Perform internal inspections.

  • Ensure proper release of product on 48 hour quality hold.

  • Work with private label contractors to ensure compliance with third party audits.

  • Perform internal inspections/audits.

  • Employee Communication.

  • Conflict Resolution.

  • Budget development.


Necessary Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Biology required. Food Science or Dairy Science preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing/supervising employees in a manufacturing, food processing or quality assurance environment.

  • Knowledge of food microbiology, general microbiology, dairy microbiology, food hygiene and food safety.

  • Knowledge of food industry assurance, federal food regulations, sanitation, HACCP systems and current good manufacturing practices.

  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
